Round 17 Tipsters' News, 2009

Congratulations to Taryn Bruce (Ormond College) who tipped all eight winners over the weekend. She wins $780, payable on Wednesday, once the tribunal gives the all-clear. Please supply your bank details.

So the prize pool reverts back to $260 next week.

According to the tipping ratio statistics there was one minor upset (<5%) and one major upset: West Coast (46.3%) defeated the Dockers in the Derby (neither were tanking, they claim) and Richmond (10.6%) just hung on against Essendon in a thriller.

In other highlights, Geelong came from 28 points down in the last quarter to just get over Hawthorn with a kick after the siren, putting them in front for the first time. Hawthorn may not make the finals, with a tough run home, though Essendon and Carlton's unexpected losses certainly help.

Jonathon Brown (Brisbane) bagged eight and has been voted toughest/most courageous player. Buddy has hit form with three freakish goals and another couple to make 5.

Meanwhile at the top of the Tipsters' Table Peter Hawting is now joined by Eddie Ross (Monash University), after Eddie's magnificent 7. They have aggregate scores of 103.

A point behind on 102 and equal third/fourth are:

  • Jane Bentley (Financial Operations, 258 Queensberry St), and
  • Marian Ross (Monash University).

Two points behind on 101 and equal fifth/sixth are:

  • Chris Bowden (c/o Baillieu), and
  • Daryl Hepburn (SSP).

Six other tippers sit on 99, a point behind and just out of the money, ready to pounce, should any of the top tippers crack under the pressure!

The average score for the round was a 5.04, down 0.25 from last week. The RAT (Random Tipper) tipped 3 and seventeen people (7%) didn't tip.

Tips close at 7 pm Friday.

You can tip for the whole season - and then change your tips weekly - to be sure. Tip now to avoid disappointment.

    Good luck,

    Ben Warden
