Central Victoria

Central Victoria is home to the goldfields of the late 1800's. Many towns sprung up around this region due to the large quantities of gold mined. The gold is gone now (mostly), but the area has lots of small, old-style towns with historic buildings.

The Great Dividing Range still shows its presence, although diminished, as a long range of large hills with the odd dead volcano. This hilly region is located just north of Melbourne and stretches for about 150km east-west, and 70km north-south.

This area is home to some open, touring style motorcycling roads typified by sweeping bends flowing through rich, green (in winter) farmland situated on sparsely treed undulating hills.
