Otway Range and the Great Ocean Road

The Otway Range is the south-west end of the Great Dividing Range. Rather than mountains as such, they are very large worn hills ranging up to 800m in height. Their defining feature is that they are the first hills encountered by winds flowing across the Great Australian Bight. This gives rise to an unusually large rainfall pattern that makes this Range also the wettest in Victoria. This in turn means the whole Range is covered with fantastic rain-forest scenery, cascading waterfalls and verdent green farmland valleys.

The southern side of the Otways run straight into the Tasman Sea providing an extremely rugged coastline of sheer rock cliffs interspersed with sandy beaches and soul-inspiring views of mountain and sea mingled together.

While blue ribbons of sealed road straight out of Motorcycling Nirvana lace this wonderland, the Great Ocean Road rides the cliff face between sea and mountain providing an experience never to be forgotten. The Otways and the Great Ocean Road are truly one of Victoria's `must-do's.
